How I can help
It might need a larger pot, a better soil mix, a cleanup or help with pests. I’ll take a look and make a plan.
I’ll check the roots, choose the right nursery pot and repot your plant in a fresh mix made for its needs.
Want more of a favorite plant? I can start cuttings in water or soil and choose the best method for that plant.
Leaf cleaning, trimming and fertilizer for plants that look dusty, leggy or a little stuck.
I’ll check for pests, clean and isolate affected plants, then help you keep the problem from coming back.

Aroids like it chunky. Succulents like it gritty. Other plants fall somewhere in between.
Custom soil blends
I don’t use one bag of soil for every plant. I mix what each one needs based on how much moisture it likes and how much air its roots need.
Some plants need more moisture. Others need more airflow. I choose the ingredients and ratios for each plant, then mix everything fresh for the visit.
A mix for every houseplant
African violets, ficus, spider plants, begonias, prayer plants and ferns all have different needs. Here is how I think about some of the most common groups.
Monstera, philodendron, pothos, anthurium, alocasia and ZZ plants
Most aroids like an airy mix that gives their roots room to breathe while holding the right amount of moisture. ZZ plants are aroids too, but prefer a mix that dries more quickly.
African violets and Streptocarpus
These plants like a light mix that holds some moisture without staying soggy.
Maranta, Calathea, Ctenanthe and Stromanthe
Prayer plants like steady moisture but still need airflow around the roots.
Cane, Rex and rhizomatous begonias
Begonias have fine roots that do best in a light, fluffy mix that never stays waterlogged.
Rubber trees, fiddle-leaf figs and weeping figs
Ficus need a mix that drains well but does not dry out too quickly.
Spider plants, Dracaena and Cordyline
These plants do well in a loose mix that drains freely while holding a little moisture.
Boston, maidenhair and bird’s-nest ferns
Ferns like more moisture than most houseplants. Their mix should stay lightly damp without becoming waterlogged.
Phalaenopsis orchids, Hoya and epiphytic cacti
These plants need plenty of air around their roots and a mix that does not stay wet.
Crassula, moonstones, String of Pearls and desert cacti
Cacti and succulents need a very fast-drying mix. I adjust how much moisture it holds for the particular plant.
This is a starting point. I also consider the plant’s pot, light, root health and how often it gets watered.
